Holbrook, John Bachman, Edmund Ravenel, Lewis Gibbes, Francis S. Holmes, Henry Ravenel, John and Joseph LeConte, and Robert W. Gibbes -- who formed a scientific community next only to those in Philadelphia and Boston.
